Essential oils have many amazing benefits and uses, from aromatherapy to stress-relief, to skincare. But have you tried essential oils for your hair? Here are some of my favorites:

Lavender

The properties of lavender oil help to generate the growth in cells and its calming aspects are widely known in helping to reduce stress. It’s antibacterial and antimicrobial properties help to improve overall scalp health.

How to use: Dilute a few drops of lavender oil with a carrier oil and massage into scalp for a relaxing moment to yourself

Tea Tree

Tea tree is a powerful cleaning agent that helps with scalp itchiness, bacterial issues, and product buildup. Diluting tea tree oil is especially important because it’s known to be strong and vary in dilution across manufacturers.

How to use: Mix into shampoo or in a spray bottle diluted with water for a scalp refresher in between wash days

Frankincense

As one of the gifts to Jesus from the 3 wise men, Frankincense is also a gift to your natural hair. Frankincense oil has powerful anti-inflammatory properties which are key in helping to resolve itchy scalp issues.

How to use: Use as a hot oil treatment by diluting with a carrier oil like extra virgin olive oil or coconut oil and thoroughly apply throughout hair and scalp. For the heating element, you can cover hair with a plastic bag, dampen a towel with warm water and then cover your hair with the towel and apply one more plastic bag over the damp towel to trap the heat as long as possible. Or you can use a deep conditioning cap or steamer.

Rosemary

According to Healthline, the key benefits for hair such as promoting nerve growth, improving circulation, and it’s abundance of anti-inflammatory properties come from the basic makeup of rosemary itself. Because of its ability to promote nerve growth, rosemary essential oil can be used to help grow thicker hair.

Peppermint

Peppermint oil has a unique feeling when used on your hair. You can immediately feel the tingle and coolness of peppermint oil when applied to the scalp, which is the sign of the oil increasing circulation to the area. Peppermint oil is another amazing oil that helps to promote hair growth.

How to use: Drop drops of peppermint oil into a daily scalp oil treatment and rub scalp for a consistent growth oil treatment. Mix in with a deep conditioner and apply a heated conditioning cap for an intense conditioning treatment.

Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus oil contains soothing anti-inflammatory properties that help to maintain a healthy scalp, ultimately aiding in hair growth. It has a refreshing, tingling, and relaxing feel to the scalp and works excellent as an itchy scalp reliever.

How to use: Enjoy a relaxing wash day with a  few drops of essential oils in your deep conditioner and a diluted amount of drops to your temples to ease headaches or tension.
